Sean Ohlenkamp
http://www.ohkamp.com Biography
My name is Sean Ohlenkamp. I'm a graduate of Art Center College of Design. I remember the day when I first realized advertising was a career option. I was watching the Superbowl at a a friend's house. I was 16. The game was interrupting a steady stream of absolutely hilarious commercials and it occurred to me that people actually make a living coming up with ideas involving monkeys and laser pointers. It was stand up comedy, sitting down. And I wanted in. Two years later, I was at Art Center relearning how to think, and I soon graduated as an advertising copywriter. I swapped back and forth between writing and art directing multiple times for the first two years of my career before realizing a giant monitor and Photoshop was the way to go. Two years after that (and a few generations of giant monitors later), I find myself nearly four years in at TBWA\Chiat\Day.
Where do you work? What do you do there?
I work at TBWA\Chiat\Day and their interactive agency TBWA\Tequila. I create national campaigns which include TV, print, outdoor, viral and guerrilla work, online paid media, and webpage design. My client list includes Nissan, Infiniti, Playstation, Uncle Ben's, Pennzoil, and Hoover among others.
How long have you been in this field?
4 years
What role did (are) you play(ing) in the project?
Art director, designer, and coder for the site. And, at the very least, art director for everything in it.
What was (is) your inspiration for this project?
My portfolio is quite diverse. I graduated as a copywriter, work as an art director, freelance as an illustrator and graphic designer, and also code in HTML, CSS, and AS2. I needed a website that would give me the flexibility to showcase the different types of work. I figured, what better way to show how I work than show the computer I work on. So I created my entire Mac operating system in Flash, complete with working programs and computer functions like sleep and shut-down. It is a constant work in progress.
What is in your equipment/gear setup?
Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Maya, FinalCut, After Effects, DVD Studio Pro, Dreamweaver, Word, lots of paper and black pens and a Mac.
