Eric Sin
http://www.lftovrs.com Biography
I'm an 18 year old Graphics Design major at California State University, Fullerton. I live in Walnut, and I'm frequently on campus. But aside from that, I actually got into the field of art that I currently am in because of many anime forums and portals. I started off just making small images, signatures, and little icons for people to use. Eventually, I found this site called
depthCORE, and I fell in love with the work on there. Since then, I worked until I produced work that was quality enough to join the group, and I have been an active member of the group since 2004. More recently, I am studying for a BFA in Graphics Design and Illustration, and I currently do freelance work.
Where do you work? What do you do there?
I generally stay within a freelance field, but recently, I have been hired by
Headplay to do several projects, and the company is considering hiring me as an employee.
How long have you been in this field?
I've been in this field for around 4 years, so you can say I've been around for a long time. However, I haven't gotten much recognition until recently, when I was featured in the October issue of Computer Arts, UNICEF's APAG project, and Katalogue 2007.
What role did (are) you play(ing) in the project?
I'm the co-owner of this portfolio, it's shared between myself and David Garvin, whose works are also on the site.
What was (is) your inspiration for this project?
The idea for a joint portfolio came pretty easily, to be honest. Both David and I needed a portfolio, and we decided to come up with a name and a site design for it. Since 2006, theleftovers has been our general outlet for our experiments and a way for us to get client work as well.
What is in your equipment/gear setup?
I use an HP Laptop dv6000, Limited Edition. The software I use are Cinema4D, Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Adobe Photoshop CS. Recently, I have enjoyed experimenting with traditional media as well.
What are some websites you visit daily?
Definitely
depthCORE. I generally don't check any other sites, but some design portals I do look at frequently,
NTMY, and
Newstoday.
Who's work do you most enjoy?
I enjoy Nathan Flood's work, and Ehren Kallman has always provided as an inspirational source and a good friend. I also enjoy work by
David Mascha a lot, and he has been featured here as well.
What advice can you share to people just getting into this field?
Be creative. Sometimes the best work comes from just doodling around and experimenting with things that you've never tried.
Any other comments?
Be cool, stay in school. Just let the creative juices flow and let the hand guide you more than your head does.
